Well! After the keys incident (that some of you know about) from last Sunday, it has become very apparent that this is not my week for driving!

I hit a deer tonight. A very large MALE deer... in the dark... in the rain... going about 50 mph... coming home from work. And I didn't have my cell phone! And the closest business was closed (I was leery of knocking on residential doors at 11PM)! But I lucked into a group of school acquaintances in the business' parking lot and they loaned me a cell phone to call home and 911.

The good news? I am uninjured, and though my car is more than a little worse for wear, it too will probably survive with a cosmetic undenting of the hood and some minor AC repairs. Unfortunately, the deer did not make it - two legs were broken, and the police had to put it down.

The irony of the whole situation is that my insurance premium had just decreased due to the fact that I'd had no accidents in my first year as a rated driver. Also ironic is that I lost both of my 'deer scares' in the impact - load of good they did me (or the deer) anyway!

So here I am staying up late, writing this blog in order to dissipate some of the stress, tension, and adrenaline of the incident.

I know that a lot of you can remember (or will never forget) your first accident. I'm very glad to have gotten mine out of the way without injuries to others or myself, and I hope my nerves will be back closer to normal tomorrow...

... Except that I might have to drive Mom's truck!!!!
